Nigel Hartnett is a Specialist Knee Surgeon seeing patients with knee conditions from childhood through to adults of all ages. Nigel's special interests are managing appropriate knee conditions without surgery, complex primary and revision knee joint replacement, knee sports medicine, and soft-tissue ligament reconstruction.
He also performs arthroscopy, osteotomy, and joint preservation procedures. He brings a refreshingly honest, open, and realistic approach when seeing patients. This has been borne out by not only being a knee surgeon but also having suffered numerous knee injuries during his sporting career.
He believes that all patients should not only be well informed of their knee condition but also that they understand all non-surgical and surgical treatment options that are available to them.
The primary goals for Nigel in treating patients are to improve their level of pain, improve their quality of life and level of function, and allow them to return to activities that they get enjoyment from.
Nigel is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, a fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, a member of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, an international member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, an international member of the European Society for Sports traumatology, Knee surgery, and Arthroscopy, and a member of the Asia Pacific Knee, Arthroscopy, and Sports Medicine Society.
Nigel’s main consulting rooms are at 34 Bell Street, Heidelberg Heights. Nigel also consults at Blackburn Specialist Suites and Bounce Physiotherapy, Blackburn; and Gisborne Specialist Centre, Gisborne.
